Past Events @ Country Log Ranch

August 27, 2006 & August 29, 2004:

The Animal Science Department of the U of S toured our operation - Country Log Ranch.

We enjoyed meeting and sharing our operation with the 20 second year students and 2 professors.

Thank You for your interest in the goat industry!

July 24th and 25th, 2006:

10 producers from Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan gathered at the operation of

Country Log Ranch (Ryan & Guenette Bautz) in Middle Lake, Saskatchewan to expand their knowledge

of the correct confirmation traits for goats, expand their terminology vocabulary, understand the CMGA show rules

and to become further educated on the CMGA score card. The event started with a Sunday night relaxed BBQ

and evening of fellowship. Monday morning arose with a welcomed shower to cool things down for the rest of the day.

While our saviors Tineille Clark & Ryan gathered the animals to be viewed in the afternoon the participants

spent time indoors reviewing the information that had been handed out; the scorecard,

body parts, correct teat structure, CMGA show rules and judging terminology.

After lunch it was out to view animals and begin understanding what judges see when viewing animals in a show ring.

Everyone had the opportunity to place 4 groups of 4 animals to find out how close their placings

would compare to Dr. Craddock's, this was most interesting and fun to participate in.

The evening closed with supper and then all scattered off to begin to study for the

big exam that was taking place on Tuesday morning. Tuesday morning brought a beautiful day and cooler than

anticipated temperatures  bonus!! Once the exam was over, the group went back to the barn to evaluate

groups of animals. Four more groups were scored and much discussion was had.

After lunch we concluded the day with judging the final 4 groups of animals. If you have ever considered

attending a Judges Training Course, don't hesitate, it is one of the best experiences I have had.

I found it most educational and useful, whether you are a commercial breeder, purebred breeder

or a producer who shows; this is a course that will benefit your operation!
